“I wasn’t the top student, but I knew I had to work hard to create opportunities for myself.”

Those words set the tone for Hayden Goh Han Sern’s inspiring journey—a young man who chose to take control of his future by rejecting convention and embracing innovation. Instead of following the well-trodden path of traditional academia, Hayden discovered a more agile, practical route to success—one that blended education with actual industry experience, giving him a head start in life while many were still figuring out their next steps.

This is not just a student success story—it’s a wake-up call for anyone questioning whether the traditional degree is still the only key to a successful career.

Early Life: An Active Spirit with a Practical Mindset

Growing up in Malaysia, Hayden was an energetic, sports-loving teenager who thrived on movement and competition. Basketball was his passion—a sport that not only shaped his physical discipline but also instilled valuable traits like teamwork, resilience, and quick decision-making.

Academically, he was average. He enjoyed learning, but traditional classroom settings didn’t resonate with him deeply. He wasn’t the “top of the class” kind of student, and he was okay with that.

“I loved being on the move, always doing something active. Sitting in one place and memorizing theory never really worked for me.”

He had a solid support system at home—his family was financially stable, but Hayden wasn’t one to take that for granted. He understood early on that relying solely on a degree, especially one without relevant work experience, could be a costly gamble in today’s job market.

That realization would become a key turning point in his life.

         The Dilemma: Degrees Without Direction

Like many school leavers, Hayden faced the daunting decision: go to a traditional university or look for an alternative route?

As he weighed his options, he couldn’t ignore what he was seeing around him—university graduates struggling to land jobs despite having diplomas in hand.

“They spent three to four years studying, but when they graduated, they didn’t have the skills employers were actually looking for. Most of them lacked real work experience and industry exposure.”

This wasn’t just hearsay—it was real. The rising cost of higher education, combined with rigid schedules and a curriculum that often lagged behind market trends, made Hayden question whether university was really worth it.

He asked himself:
“Why invest years of my life into something that might not even prepare me for the workforce?”

The answer came in the form of a recommendation—from a friend who introduced him to eduCLaaS.

         The Turning Point: Discovering eduCLaaS

When Hayden first heard about eduCLaaS, he was intrigued by its work-integrated learning model. It was everything he had been searching for—an affordable, flexible, and experience-driven approach to education that put students in real work environments from day one.

“It immediately stood out because it wasn’t just about learning theory. It was about applying that knowledge in the real world.”

What made eduCLaaS especially appealing to Hayden was the bootcamp format in the first year. He knew he wasn’t the most academically inclined, so the hands-on, project-based style fit him perfectly. It gave him the space to learn by doing rather than memorizing.

The Bootcamp Experience: Learning in the Real World

The first year was intense. Hayden dived into the deep end—learning marketing fundamentals, digital tools, analytics, and communication strategies. The curriculum was practical, fast-paced, and immediately applicable.

“The bootcamp challenged me in ways traditional school never did. But it also opened my eyes to how much I could accomplish when learning was connected to real outcomes.”

After completing the foundational year, Hayden didn’t just walk away with knowledge—he walked into a job.

He secured a Marketing Associate role, where his learning took a sharp and meaningful turn. He was no longer a student just preparing for the future—he was living it.

The Career Shift: From Theory to Execution

In his role as a Marketing Associate, Hayden began working on actual campaigns, analyzing live data, and contributing to business decisions. He created content, ran reports, brainstormed with teammates, and built out strategies that had real impact on the company’s performance.

“Instead of just studying what a marketing campaign looks like, I was actually running one. That made all the difference.”

He worked alongside seasoned professionals who treated him not just as a student, but as a growing marketer. Their mentorship was invaluable, helping him sharpen both technical skills and soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.

However, like all real-world experiences, there were challenges.

Lessons from the Field: Growth Through Struggles

One of the biggest hurdles Hayden faced was confidence. As a newcomer in a professional environment, he initially hesitated to speak up, ask for help, or clarify assignments.

“I used to be afraid to say I didn’t understand something. I thought it would make me look weak.”

Over time, with guidance and experience, he realized that communication was not a weakness—it was a vital professional skill. Collaboration became second nature, especially when working on team-based projects like TikTok content planning or digital marketing strategies.

These lessons—learned on the job, not in a classroom—became the foundation of his professional maturity.

Today’s Success: Building a Career, Not Just a Resume

Fast forward to today, and Hayden is thriving. He’s earning a salary, gaining critical industry experience, and continuing his studies—all at once.

He’s no longer just chasing grades—he’s chasing impact.

“I’m not just ready for the future—I’m already living it.”

And her message to others?
