Like many students, Dwayne Maize Bitoon Santos approached school with a simple goal\u2014getting through academic requirements without much distinction. He wasn\u2019t an outstanding student, nor was he struggling; he was simply going through the motions. Initially, Dwayne considered pursuing marine biology or nursing, two fields that intrigued him. One of Dwayne\u2019s biggest concerns with the traditional education system was the gap between learning and real-world experience. Typically, students spend years in a classroom before they gain any hands-on exposure to their field. This delay can make it harder to transition into a career and leaves graduates unprepared for industry demands. He wanted a more integrated approach where he could gain practical experience while learning.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Like many students, Sheng faced a big question after graduation:<\/div>\n \n
\n\nDwayne\u2019s mother played a key role in helping him discover an alternative. While scrolling through Facebook, she found a post about eduCLaaS<\/a> promoting their Sertifikat Sarjana<\/a>, a\n\nprogram that offered an earn-while-you-learn model. When she shared it with him, he was immediately intrigued. The idea of gaining work experience while studying aligned perfectly with his goals, so he decided to give it a shot.\n\n<\/div>\n \n
\u201cGaining experiences before you graduate, I think that’s very precious because in the traditional path, after you graduate, that’s where you could look for internships or jobs. Adapting to the Software Engineering<\/a> program was challenging at first. The initial modules introduced new concepts that he had little experience with, making the transition difficult. However, as he progressed, with the help of the mentors, he started developing technical skills that would be invaluable in the industry.<\/div>\n \n
\u201cThe mentors gave very insightful feedback, especially if we’re having trouble like some of them would give some of their time to teach us, like how to do the certain part in the module so that we could implement it into the final project. I think that they’re very accommodating.\u201d<\/div>\n \n
He gained proficiency in GitHub, version control, and software development tools like Laravel and PHP. Industry projects gave him hands-on experience with APIs, including OpenAI API and other advanced technologies. These experiences helped him build confidence and practical expertise that he wouldn\u2019t have gained in a traditional classroom setting.<\/div>\n \n
Beyond technical skills, he also developed essential soft skills. Time management became a critical part of his routine, ensuring he could balance coursework and projects efficiently. Communication skills improved as he learned how to present his work to supervisors and collaborate with peers. Teamwork played a crucial role in his growth, as industry projects required seamless coordination and problem-solving with colleagues.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Reflecting on his journey, Dwayne stands by his decision to pursue an alternative path through eduCLaaS. Though the road wasn\u2019t always easy, the challenges pushed him to grow, and the rewards have been more than worth it.\n\nDwayne now feels confident and career-ready, equipped not just with textbook knowledge, but with practical skills that matter in the real world.<\/div>\n \n
He recalls one of the most defining parts of the program:<\/div>\n \n
\u201cI would say the industry project is much harder than the entire bootcamp like it was so hard at the beginning because there were some other things that we didn’t know about. But I think that it’s very good because it really gives you a simulation of the work environment of being a software engineer.\u201d<\/div>\n \n
