When Your Career Direction Starts to Change

Sometimes, the career you imagine for yourself at 18 isn’t the career you eventually choose.
For Lovelyn Michelle Wisan, the plan was once to become an aesthetic doctor. But as her interests evolved, she found herself increasingly drawn to business, content creation, and social media. Digital marketing began to feel like a natural fit for the direction she wanted to take.
Growing up, she was a laid-back student who preferred taking things at her own pace. Her parents gave her the freedom to learn in her own way while reminding her to stay

Looking Beyond the Classroom

Like many students, Lovelyn knew that understanding concepts in a classroom was important. But she also wanted something more.
She wanted to experience the work itself, to make mistakes, solve problems, receive feedback, and understand how digital marketing works when there are real tasks and real expectations involved.
“What makes me want to go to this program is because there’s this learning program where you get real experience.”
That opportunity mattered to her because she was already thinking beyond graduation. She wanted to see how digital skills could actually be used in the workplace. It also connected to her longer-term goal of starting a business of her own one day, possibly in fashion, accessories, or even a café.
For Lovelyn, earning a qualification was important, but so was knowing how to turn what she learned into something useful beyond the classroom.

Learning by Doing

This is where Lovelyn’s learning journey began to look different.
At CLaaS2SaaS Lithan, she completed a 12-month bootcamp followed by work and study, allowing her to start applying what she learned before graduating.
She started in Content Marketing, working on scripts, emails, content, and design, before moving into SEO. There, she learned about keywords, position tracking, website performance, and tools such as SEMrush.
The difference was simple but significant: she was no longer just learning about digital marketing.
She was actually doing it.
“I actually do it in real time, so I get to understand better and know how to use things,” she explained.
Being able to work on real tasks helped her connect the dots between different areas of digital marketing and understand how they work together in a real business environment.

Finding Confidence Through Practice

Of course, learning by doing does not mean getting everything right the first time.
Lovelyn had her share of challenges.
Online learning required discipline. Programming pushed her outside her comfort zone. Adjusting to an 8-to-5 working routine was another change.
And then there was feedback.
Sometimes, she would feel that a task was already finished, only to receive another round of revisions. It could be frustrating.
“At first I was a bit frustrated, but as I go on with more practice, I guess it gets much better”, she shared.
But that frustration became part of her learning process. With support from lecturers, mentors, and colleagues, she became more comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and improving her work.
Over time, feedback became less about getting something wrong and more about learning how to do it better.

From Student to Young Professional

Completing the 12-month bootcamp is one of Lovelyn’s proudest achievements. She is now building her CV with practical experience in Content Marketing, SEO, and digital marketing rather than relying only on academic knowledge.
Her family has also been happy to see her already working and developing professional skills. Even her friends were surprised to learn that the program could give students the opportunity to gain work experience from their second year.
For Lovelyn, that experience has helped make her career direction feel more concrete.
She hopes to continue strengthening her skills in content creation, SEO, video, websites, and digital business strategy, with the goal of eventually building a business of her own.

Looking Ahead to What’s Next

Lovelyn’s journey is still unfolding.
For her, education is about more than completing assignments or earning certificates. It is about understanding how skills can be applied in real situations.
Her experience has also shown her the value of asking questions, learning from mistakes, and taking advantage of practical opportunities.
“The more you practice, the more understanding you’ll get and the more knowledge you’ll get.”
